I am very excited to be a PRS Foundation Women Make Music, Artist - the funding went towards the premiere of my latest piece Melting, Shifting Liquid World a large scale, immersive work for String Ensemble, Electric Viola and Electronics delivered over bone-conduction headphones. There were three sold out premiere performances at the National Maritime Museum on the 16th March 2019. I am delighted to have also received support from the Arts Council England, Hinrichsen Foundation and The Gemma Classical Music Trust, for this production. The piece features different sonic interpretations of climate change data from ocean monitoring indicators. It also incorporates a poem called “Still Life with Sea Pinks and High Tide” by Maura Dooley and field recordings from the Arctic, recorded by world renowned field recordist Chris Watson. I was very pleased to be one of The Cohan Collective 2018 selected composers in residence, working with choreographers to explore the art of collaboration. The residency took place in Bournemouth in August, in partnership with Pavilion Dance South West and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra with mentorship from composer Kenneth Hesketh.

Composer in Residence, 2017

In 2017, I was Composer in Residence with CoMA (Contemporary Music for All) and worked with them on a project entitled 'Movements in Space', a proposal directly related to my PhD thesis exploring the arena, ensemble and action spaces of music, through composition. I wrote three new open score pieces for the ensemble and helped to select the other repertoire for the concert. My pieces were devised through workshops and rehearsals, so the process often involved collaboration and required me to direct aspects of rehearsals.

This residency has led to an ongoing relationship with the ensemble that has seen me lead workshops on their Summer School in Orkney, and at the 2018 Festival of Contemporary Music for All.
